I have been a life-long lover of art, raised in a family of beauty-loving creatives. Teaching all age groups, I’ve come to believe that we truly were created to create and delight in helping others find that joy.
While in college, I first resisted taking a ceramics course, hating the feeling of having dry hands and dirt under my nails. However, I gave ceramics a whirl during my senior year and fell in love.
Fast forward a few years, through a fun internship in Colorado and then a gray desk job that sought to shatter my soul, I chose to pursue my Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Ceramics at YSU. Once again I was hooked, often staying in the studio well into the wee hours.
Now I have a daughter and am up at 3 a.m. for much different reasons, but uninterrupted time in the studio is still where I lose myself in the joy of creating.
I am discovering the wonder of having my daughter as a muse, seeing the beauty of the world through her eyes. My creative practice looks different than it once did….not spending hours on end in the studio, but rather catching toddler nap-length pockets of time in which to create. That time is rich, teaching me to trust my artistic intuition rather than seeking perfection. Working at the Davis Family YMCA has helped me reconnect to my artistic self and to create new bonds within the Y community.
